How to Use Service Learning in College Nutrition Courses

Presenter: Melissa Altman-Traub, MS, RDN, LDN

Objective:

Learn how to incorporate service learning in your classes to help students achieve deeper learning and promote higher-order thinking skills.

About the Presenter: 

Melissa Altman-Traub, MS, RDN, LDN is an Associate Professor of Allied Health at the Community College of Philadelphia. She has been a part-time academic adviser, is involved with student success programs, and has led faculty learning communities. She also is an adjunct faculty member at LaSalle University. Her background includes clinical nutrition in hospitals, long-term care, and renal nutrition, and outpatient nutrition counseling. She also has a food blog at www.melissatraub.com and has expertise with plant-based and vegetarian diets. Melissa holds a B.S. in Nutrition from Pennsylvania State University, completed a dietetic internship at the University of Cincinnati Hospital, completed an M.S. in Health Education at Arcadia University, and completed additional coursework in Health Studies at Temple University.

Presenter: Jean LaMantia, RD

Objective:

Understand recent research and popular topics in cancer nutrition and receive information on other references for nutrition in cancer.

About the Presenter:

Jean LaMantia, RD is a registered dietitian, cancer survivor and author of three books: The Complete Lymphedema Management & Nutrition Guide, The Essential Cancer Treatment Nutrition Guide & Cookbook and Complete Intermittent. She is also the creator of the Cancer Risk Reduction Guide to help cancer survivors reduce their risk of recurrence. Presenter: Ginger Hultin, MS, RDN, 

Seattle-based registered dietitian nutritionist at ChampagneNutrition®  

Author of Anti-Inflammatory Diet Meal Prep and How to Eat to Beat Disease Cookbook

Objective:

Learn how to recruit a qualified student or intern for your nutrition business, how to delegate work to an intern or study and documentation that is needed to protect your business and your intern.

About the Presenter:

Ginger Hultin, MS, RDN owns Seattle-based concierge nutrition practices, Champagne Nutrition® PLLC and Seattle Cancer Nutritionist where she helps clients solve complex health mysteries with an integrative approach. She specializes in plant-based diets, integrative oncology nutrition, supplements, and nutrigenomics. Ginger also enjoys talking to dietitians about professional development, improved communication, and social media strategy. 

 

Ginger currently serves as adjunct clinical faculty at the Bastyr Center for Natural Health. She is the Chair of the Member and Student Advisory Committee at the Academy, immediate past-president of the Greater Seattle Dietetic Association, past President for the Chicago Academy and past chair of the Vegetarian Nutrition Dietetic Practice Group. She was awarded Emerging Dietetic Leader in Washington, 2020. She is a graduate of the University of Washington and Bastyr University.

The Board of Directors of the Suncoast Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics are pleased to announce the start of the 2021-2022 term! The board is looking forward to continued growth of the organization this year. A BIG thank you goes out to last year’s board members for all the hard work they put in.

  • Active membership with the national Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics

  • Pay annual fee ($15 students/retired, $30 all other) via PayPal

 

We encourage all local dietitians; past, present and future, to join SAND this year.
